In the early days of cine sound was supplied using discs or latterly wire and tape recorders. These were matched to the visuals as well as possible, but could never be accurate enough for synch(ronous) sound so that you could not show close-ups of people talking, for example. We have very little information about the winners of this award and would be grateful if anyone can help fill in some of the gaps. It would appear to have been withdrawn in the mid 1960s.
