TOP VIDEO WINNERS : IAC 1991
Four award-winning video entries in the 1991 IAC International Film and Video
Competition, premiered at movie 91, during the weekend March 15-17, 1991,
at the Kennedy Hotel and the Shaw Theatre, London NW1.

HE LOVED LIGHT, FREEDOM AND ANIMALS
Afon Taf High School (Merthyr Tydfil, Wales)
On October 21, 1966, after several days of continuous heavy rain, Pontglas
School, Aberfan, was engulfed in a sea of mud. The title is drawn from an
inscription on a tombstone to Richard, one of the entombed children. Archive
footage of the aftermath of the disaster is included in this setting of a
poem by Mike Jenkins, which shows how the spirit of just one of the children
(played by Stephen Watkins) lives on in our memories.

CHEESECAKE
St. Cuthbert's High School Video Club (Newcastle-on-Tyne)
A lad (Joseph Ridgeway Scargill) wandering through a graveyard comes across
a painter at work. When the artist, Arnold Shuttleworth (David Habberjam),
asks the boy his name, the answer is not at all what he expects. Before long,
however, the two of them are composing lyrics for a tune composed many years
previously on the East Side of New York. Screenplay by David Peffer.

NOTHING TO BE AFRAID OF
Tim Jones (Kent)
Young Tom (Tom Barton), a much-cosseted and rather shy little boy, is left
by his mum at a neighbour's house and, naturally, Katie (Katie Levette),
being a little older, looks after him. She takes him to play in the park
and introduces him to the 'dangers' of the resident Leopards, the Python
Tree, the Toilet Demon and other nasties. . . Based on a short story by Jan
Mark, written in 1977.
10-year-old Katie Levette's performance secured the LeHedan Acting Trophy
for the video, (made by the maker of the award-winning 16mm film travelogue
The Land That Never Melts lib. nos: 1327 and FT/V 50 item 3).
