THE SS STELLA REMEMBERED

A documentary telling the story of how the SS Stella sank in only seven minutes
near Alderney in 1889. This led to the disaster subsequently being called
the 'Titanic of the Channel Islands'. Well researched and with a clear
commentary.

UNEXPECTED HELP!

A young boy (Fraser Ogilvie) has forgotten to do his homework and to tidy
his room. However, when he goes to school, some plasticine figures emerge
and do both for him! Neat animation by the 14-year-old maker for his first
movie; he also made the models and did the editing!

DEBRA THE ZEBRA

Another of this maker's amusing animals (see also Where the Good Cats
Go and Rooney the Rhino (lib. nos: FT/V 122 item 1, FT/V 128 item
1 and FT/V 151 item 4))! This zebra crops up alongside Adam and Eve, Helen
of Troy, Caesar and Cleopatra and, of all things, Snow White and the Seven
Dwarfs! The maker wrote and sings the song as usual, accompanied by his son
Martin.

This is a most intriguing pixilated movie, which the actors and actresses
themselves have to help to animate. There is a series of incidents before
the final climax. This movie is almost impossible to describe in words and
is probably unique in style. A truly original cinematic experience!

A fascinating and humorous look at the soap-box exponents at Speakers' Corner
in London's Hyde Park. This really is a case of 'All human life is there'
- both in the 'orators' and in their respective audiences/ hecklers! Well

This film noir is set in the 1950s in which Michael Bishop (John Thiel) is
an ex-sailor who has come to stay in a small US downtown hotel, where a local
prostitute, Laurel (Marin van Young), also lives. She is being blackmailed
by a local older police-man who also sometimes beats her up ... The style
is very reminiscent of Raymond Chandler/Dashiel Hammett.

MOSCOW MEMORIES
Michael Gough, FACI (Sunderland)
Given its architecture and history, this must surely be one of the most
fascinating capitals in the world. With good photography, excellent choice
of music, plus an informative and well-delivered commentary, this movie creates
a strong impression of what it must be like. Indeed, after seeing so many
famous buildings and landmarks, together with the people, it makes one feel
that one should go and find out for oneself!
