Selected club news from SoCo Newsletters... Wimborne Minster Cine & Video Club Wimborne Minster Cine & Video Club September heralded the start of an exciting new season. Having listened to the views of our members we're providing more "hands on" activity then before. Fewer guest speakers will give more time for practical demos and workshops. Simple editing will be featured. Previously emphasis has been placed on top-end editing suites which is not what everyone wants or can afford. Three members who are not experts will take us through editing on PC & Mac. Club competitions are in place to be judged independently, some by audiences. The prestigious Rose Bowl trophy has been replaced with a new silver in memoriam cup. This Summer we didn't completely shut down as a small group extending their expertise engaged in a project about the delights of Poole as seen from the Poole Road Train. Much material was captured, reduced to manageable proportions ready for the final "cut" , voice over, titles and credits. The result will be screened during this season. This "experiment" is a first for the club and could lead to greater activity this coming Summer. Membership is healthy but new members are always welcome of any or no experience. We thrive from the dedication of the Committee and the Members. - Gary Court Devizes & District Cine & Video Club We have been busy fulfilling our weekly programmes. A "Request Evening" was held which gave members a chance to see movies that they had missed or wished to see again. Peter Stedman from the Chippenham Movie Club presented a programme of his work which was well received. An evening of archive wedding films proved to be a nostalgic look back in time bringing gasps of incredulity at the youthful appearance of happy couples! The compiling of clips for the ongoing News Night Programme continues for showing later on. Bill Summers music evening supplied four minutes audio tapes to which each member was invited to add images of their own. The variety and imaginative use of merging visuals to this music made for an unusual and interesting evening. Vice President John Sykes was invited by the TV programme "Home & Leisure - On Camera" for the Discovery Channel to a day with their crew making a film and editing it in their suite in London. John having been given a birthday present of a helicopter flight, John decided to he would shoot the experience. With backing from the TV crew and instructions of what was required, John performed the difficult task of filming in a confined space. Johns' son Adam accompanied him. We saw the final "cut" of the film with John in the studio with the TV crew. His account of the day was absorbing and he learned a lot from the experience. We have also organised crew and players for our new movie. Rehearsals have taken place and locations were fixed. The shoot commenced on the 27th. September in Calne. - Betty Gummer
