I know, I know!  You hate having the club's title abbreviated but page space is limited so sometimes photographic society becomes photo soc, university becomes uni, and becomes & ... If you can suggest a more acceptable abbreviation for your group, let me know.

Cine, Video or A-V?

The disciplines overlap.  You will have lots of fun and learn a lot from joining any club, whether most of its energy is channelled towards your type of picture-making or not.

Broadly speaking those shown as Photographic Societies or A-V Groups are sub-sections of "still" camera clubs and may do little pure movie-making activity.  Their interest is in showing slides with soundtrack accompaniment using two or more projectors so that pictures can be mixed from one to the other.  Moviemakers will learn a lot about making superb pictures, high-fidelity soundtracks and the subtle relationships between images from such groups.

Almost all other clubs focus on video, because that is what most of their members use, but 99% of  the activity is equally applicable to film work.  AV workers  will learn about plotting, assembly of shots, live sound capture and appreciation of the needs of an audience.
