NORTH v SOUTH FINALISTS 1996

The North v South Competition Final is between five entries from the south of Britain and five from the north. The competition was originally founded by the late John Wright, FACI. The Set Theme for 1996 was 'Cover Up'.

SOUTH
1. THE LADY IN WHITE
Circle Eight (Surrey)
We see a middle-aged woman (Carol Day) getting dressed in a long white flowing dress, white hat with veil, long lacy gloves and a white umbrella, to take a walk along the nearby beach, where she is a well-known figure. Directed by Jenny Grove from her own idea.

2. FRANK

Dad, Dave (Chas Adler), Mum, Julie (Shirley Wenham) are lumbered with Uncle Frank (Frank Waslin), a serious and difficult bore, for the weekend. Unfortunately, Saturday night is when Dave's boss and party are coming to dinner to discuss a big business project. So, what to do with Uncle Frank ... ? Director Mick Plant, producer Barry Jorden.

5. THE ANASTASIA STAR

Jim Miller (Malcolm Mountjoy), an international jewel dealer, wakes up one morning in a Brighton hotel with a massive hangover and loss of memory. He discovers from a TV newscast that he is wanted in connection with the loss of the 'Anastasia Star', a diamond cluster which is part of the Russian State jewellery collection. He immediately reports to the police - who don't believe his story. But what did happen ... ? Screenplay, from ideas by Mike Turner and Derek Allen, by Reg Lancaster, who also photographed and edited.

Stoke Cine and Video Society These letters stand for Search for Extra-Terrestrial Intelligent Life, and a team of workers, Stephanie (Alison Walters), Doyle (Nigel Peever) and Martin (Tyrone Williams), is employed at a tracking station 'to eavesdrop on millions of star systems, hoping to detect radio signals of an artificial origin' ... Written and directed by Michael Walters.
