CUTTING TO MUSIC
(Library ref no. 7)
Everybody looks for something different in a Club Night. Hopefully it will
be entertaining, with something to inspire us to get more out of our hobby.
Well look no further. Some of the best IAC talent has got together in this
compilation programme (although it could have
been called "Using Music"). Val Ellis (Library Selector) put together this
collection containing 3 DVDs and a CD with more than enough material to fill
a Club night. The material comes from many sources with film to video
transfers, some VHS footage as well as more recent digital images. Some
are prize winners and some are rarely seen outside of their Region. Altogether
an eclectic mix.
There is even a library of copyright free music tracks by Grahame Elliot,
who has waived copyright on his tracks. You can use these for your own
creative experiments with music.
Reviewed by Michael Gough.
DISC 1 |
Starts with an introduction by Richard Curry, IAC Music Librarian,
with seven short examples of different styles and uses (including
one of my all time favourites Dog by Michael McCloy
transferred from film).
Also contains a section called "Learn From The Masters" in which Geoff Cauldwell and Michael Slowe talk about their differing styles with samples of their work. |

DISKS 2 and 3 |
Provide a selection of sixteen films ranging from animation to
documentary, from the beauties of nature to experimental. The music
ranges from self composed to well known classical pieces. There is more
than enough for a club night and
there will be some that are preferred over others. I would suggest
whoever is presenting the Club programme takes time to make their own
personal selection. The accompanying notes give you timings to assist
your selection.
Whatever you pick to see I would recommend that you leave yourself ten minutes to see the final track on Disc 3. It is a delightfully charming French musical from 2001 called Minouche followed by Richard Curry's final words inviting you to try your hand with some of the copyright free music on Disk 4.
