3. THE MAGICAL MANOR OF HEMINGFORD GREY
Peter Copestake (Lancs)
The title refers to a most attractive house near Huntingdon, which was the home for many years of the famous authoress of the 'Green Knowe' stories for children, Lucy M. Boston. When she first bought the house it was run down and derelict, but she gradually restored both it and the gardens. She also made a large, dazzling collection of patch-work quilts. The current owner (Diana Boston) tells the story and there are readings by Sally Gray from some of the books.

4. ANOTHER STORY
Leandro Blanco (Spain)
Full of wonderful images - as one might expect from the maker of visual feasts such as Caribbean Safari (see lib. no: V 66 item 9) and There's a Place (see lib nos: FT/V 112 item 1 and V 120/121 item 3) - adding a touch of class to what might otherwise have been a routine story about a small-time hustler who has a deep-sea encounter.
BAVA Trophy 1997; IAC International Award 1998

5. PARALLEL LINES
RAM Motion Pictures (Worcs)
A commercial photographer, Julia (Karen Heard), receives the offer of a job-of-a-lifetime in S‹o Paulo. However, her fiancé Simon (Simon Atkins) is less than enthusiastic because he wants them to get married, so Julia agrees to think about it for 24 hours. But something happens during that day ... Believable acting and a good script enhance this well-shot and edited movie. Directed by Patrick Amery from a story by Lynn Barker.
Guernsey Lily, Best Acting Award (Karen Heard) 1997; IAC Gold Seal, Best Club Award, Special Commendation for Acting (Karen Heard) 1998

6. TO PANIJIRI TOE TAVROE (BULL FESTIVAL)
Henk Boose (Netherlands)
An introductory caption tells us that in the days of antiquity, the Greeks used ritually to slaughter a bull to preserve the fertility of the land. The maker goes on to say that he was surprised to find they still carry out this practice on the island of Lesbos. A chance to observe the customs of another land, just pictures and music brilliantly conveying the wonderful atmosphere surrounding a simple, island people - and there's even some humour!

7. FLIGHT OF FANCY
Alan Atkinson (Rugby)
What might happen if certain non-professionals started trying genetic engineering for themselves! The mind boggles! Made in the style of a television documentary, with a presenter (Alan Atkinson) talking to camera and a local farmer, Walter Ruddles, played by the not entirely inappropriately-named Gordon Bullock.
