The making of Smith, Gary

SMITH, Gary is a one minute film.

I made my first films in 1999. I have a background of creative art and design and had a desire to make films that reflected this experience. My first films were experimental and mostly very short and I became particularly fond of making one minute films. SMITH, Gary is my most recent one minute experimental film.

Gary Smith, engineer, actor, filmmaker, musician, computer whiz, wit and much, much more is a good friend of mine and we are both members of Huddersfield Video Club. He is big both in stature and attitude and an expert in a diverse range of subjects. This short film was intended as CV for Gary and, although I do admit to some invention, is a reasonably true reflection of his talents and capabilities.

It was filmed in just ten minutes at a local park, and created by indulging in the vast range of effects and transitions that make the programme Adobe After Effects such a thrill to play with.

The music was created in the programme Sonic Foundry Acid. With this programme, and many others like it, all you have to do is pick the sound bites (I have a small library of sound bite CDs) and arrange them on a time line, very easy, great fun and copyright free.
