Poster calling for submissions to the festival.Sarnia Shorts

Closing date: 31st May 2012
Festival:   19th-21st October 2012 *

The Guernsey Lily International Non Commercial Film & Video Festival - the friendliest festival in the British Isles - came to an end in October 2010 when the organisers decided to retire. At first it seemed there would be no rescue, but then Wynter Tyson and Lisa Gaudion stepped in. They plan to continue the good work of the past nineteen years. There may well be some changes but, as well as trying to attract more 'student' and local interest, they will strive to keep the special friendly atmosphere that has been built up over the years.

Entries may be up to 30 minutes long. Films not in English should be subtitled or easily understood by English-speaking audiences. The preferred format is .mov but a standard DVD or blu-ray disc will also be accepted (visit this site to download Mpeg Streamclip – a free reliable software to convert your files for windows and mac www.squared5.com). Please note that all entries should be submitted on disc; tapes, memory sticks and other formats will not be accepted. All entries must be either 16 x 9 or 4 x 3 native formats. All entries must have been created after 1 January 2010. You may enter as many films as you like.

Good news: for 2012 there will be no entry fee though this will change in future years.

Download an entry form as aWord document here or as a pdf here but do check the rules on their website carefully.

They want it to be a ‘green’ festival so DVDs should be posted in cardboard DVD mailers (similar to those used by postal DVD rental services) rather than plastic dvd cases and / or padded envelopes. Here is a basic guide to making your own envelope:

In the future it is envisaged that the festival will move towards online submissions.

* The organisers deeply regret that these dates clash with the IAC AGM weekend, but it was the only weekend they could get the venue.
