The Audio-Visual Movement

For many years a number of AV Workers have been IAC members. The combination of slides synchronised to soundtracks was a forerunner of movies. In recent years many AV workers have moved to digital electronic picture making and projection.

They enjoy the advantage of the Copyright Scheme. Many AV groups are listed in the club section.

Peter Coles is currently the IAC Council member looking after our AV affairs. He is an extremely successful sequence maker with well over 70 International AV Awards. From 1990-1996 he was editor of AV News . Then he worked with Colin Balls and Ron Davies to form and edit AV World a magazine for workers in this field. The magazine is no more but its spirit lives on in Peter's website (www.avpeter.com).  Though retired from his career in education he is extremely active in the Hebden Bridge area where he lives.

The Geoffrey Round AV Competition

The IAC's annual competition for AV work is named after the man who did a great deal to promote the movement within the IAC. Geoffrey Round was a past Chairman of the Institute. It was the first internationally recognised AV competition to go completely digital.

It is usually staged in March each year and a selection of the winners is included in BIAFF (The British International Amateur Film Festival).
The results of the 2008 competition can be found here, and Linda Gough writes about judging the competition.
